Awards - The Hunger Games

Movie Awards Awards -

The Hunger Games was nominated for many awards throughout 2012, and some still in 2013, and has won a large number of these. For example in the Virgin Media Movie Awards 2012, it won "Most Wanted Movie" of 2012, and was also nominated for "Next Big Thing" of 2012.

The film was also nominated for MTV's "Best Film Of The Year", but in the end Twilight Breaking dawn took the title.

Awards, Jennifer Lawrence -

Jennifer Lawrence won "best female performance" in the Hunger Games at the MTV movie awards. She also won Teen Choice Awards "Choice Movie Actress". Her and Josh Hutcherson also won "Best Kiss"at the Teen Choice Awards. At the People's Choice Awards, she won "Best Movie Actress", as well as "Best Actress In Action Movie" at the Critic's Choice awards.

Awards, Josh Hutcherson -

Josh Hutcherson has won awards before starring in The Hunger Games, for example a "Young Artist Award", but has continued to be nominated and win awards since being in The Hunger Games. He has won "Best Fight" and "Best Male Performance" in 2012, and also won "Favourite On-Screen Chemistry" in 2013.

Background -

The film The Hunger Games was based on the book by Suzanne Collins, and she also was part of writing the film, along with Gary Ross and Billy Ray. The screenplay remains very faithful to the orginal novel, and more sequels are being created, the next being "Catching fire", due to be released on 22nd November 2013.

 The film was premiered on March 12th, and was released in America on March 22nd, and the total running time is 142 minutes.

Budget-

The total budget for the film was $78 million, and on the weekend of it's release, made $152.5 million, making it the third largest of any movie in North America. Worldwide, the movie was also a massive success, grossing at $685 million against it's $78 million budget. This made it the 9th highest grossing worldwide of 2012.

The movie was also released on dvd on August 18 2012, and in the first weekend Lionsgate stated that 3.8 million DVD/Bluray copies of the film were sold, with more than one third of these being in Bluray format. Three weeks after this, movie sales continued to rise, with 5 million copies being sold on DVD and 3.7 million on Blu-ray.
